3 Reasons Why Everyone Should Freelance In 2021

Paul Mendes • Jan 15, 2021

Discover three reasons why everyone should be freelancing in 2021...

If you have not yet embarked into freelancing or having a side hustle, watch the video or keep reading to see the three reasons why everyone should be capitalizing on this recession-proof business model.

#1 - Freelancing Is The Future

Freelancing is the future

Since the year 2020, we all had to learn a new way to adapt and earn money online if we weren’t already. Freelancing is becoming the way of the future, and it’s happening at an accelerated pace. This new adaption has given traditional workers the ability to experience what working remotely online feels like and the benefits it can provide compared to a traditional corporate office.

In fact, they loved being able to work from home so much that they have started to consider freelancing even more after seeing the many wonderful benefits that freelancing provide in their life, their family’s life, and their community.

Upwork Freelance Forward 2020 Report

As a result of more companies hiring digitally and more people choosing freelancing, this has made the demand for freelancing skills go up.

According to an Upwork Press Release: “This includes a burst of demand for customer services and a sustained increase in demand for e-commerce development and web and mobile design.”

Now is the time to start freelancing part-time or consider making it your full-time career because the workforce is going to rapidly shift more and more into the digital workspace. You don’t want to get left behind or miss out on these massive earning opportunities to take advantage of.

This is backed up by cold hard statistics. The Upwork future workforce states that: “More than half (52%) of businesses working either fully or partially remote utilized independent talent, followed by 38% of businesses operating entirely in office or on-site.“

A study which looked into recent freelance stats from an Upwork Press Release states that:

  • “Non-freelancers new to remote work say they are considering freelancing in the future because it has made them a more productive worker (73%), they’d prefer working remotely over returning to a traditional office (74%), and to earn extra income to cope with the impact of the pandemic on their personal finances (85%)”

  • “86% of freelancers say that the best days are ahead for freelancing.”

  • “71% of freelancers say perceptions of freelancing as a career are becoming more positive.”

As you can see, freelancing is not only the future, but is very important to the way the economy is adapting and earning money, and the way businesses can adapt during any time of uncertainty. Freelancing provides security, more abundant opportunities, and benefits over any other traditional job can even offer. This is why so many are shifting to freelancing part-time, or full-time as we speak.

#2) - Flexibility

Freelancing gives you a flexible schedule

Freelancing is flexible with your schedule and ultimately shapes how you want your future. Whether you want to start freelancing part-time, and pick up one project, or have a few clients on the side, you have that ability to do so. On the other hand, if you want to make freelancing a full-time career that is also available for you at any time.

A recent Upwork article states: ”To adapt to the changes and uncertainty, professionals entered the freelance workforce for the first time. At the same time, the shift towards greater workforce flexibility coupled with the necessity to maintain continuity brought new demand for independent professionals from businesses.”

Having this much flexibility as a freelancer gives you peace of mind, more control over your day, and better health due to being able to attend to your personal needs (aka being able to workout or do some yoga whenever you feel like it). You can also have increased flexibility to carve out time and make yourself a healthy meal vs having to eat out all the time while at a corporate office job. Many people during remote-working have started these benefits and many more as they shifted towards this working style.

Freelancers have the flexibility to choose: their hours, type of projects, and clients to work with, and ultimately have control of their schedule. This
Upwork Press Release stated that “One in four freelancers did freelancing on the side while having another traditional full-time job. In addition, 51% report that while they have paused freelancing, they are still employed part-time or full-time elsewhere. Another 28% are full-time students, homemakers, or retirees. Altogether, the flexibility of freelancing led to an increase in demand for freelancers.”

Due to the amount of flexibility that freelancing can provide, it gives people who want the flexibility to have time to be caregivers to their disabled family members and be able to have time to take care of them. According to Google, there are over “48% of freelancers who are caregivers, and 33% have a disability in their household. The flexibility freelancing it provides allows them to fit work into days that work for them and provides them an alternative way that can allow them to support a family without having to go to a physical traditional job.

Caregivers can stay home, and work when they want due to the flexibility freelancers provide. As a caregiver, it’s important to be able to have a flexible schedule to take care of their family member in need, In case they need help, trips to appointments, etc. It’s time that people can control their day, and be able to take care of those who need them the most while still being able to make an income from home.

Freelancing has also given flexibility to mothers who no longer have to make the choice to choose between parenting or having a successful career. Instead of working at a physical office and putting their child in a daycare, mothers are now able to be home with their children and have more control of their schedule. This type of flexibility is crucial for mom’s who need that control in their daytime to be able to work on their projects on their own time and be able to look after their kids, take them to appointments, or to the park, and other things that they couldn't do while on a strict corporate-based schedule.

If having more flexibility in your life sounds appealing to you, and even helpful for the type of lifestyle that you have, I highly encourage you to look into making freelancing a side hustle or full time career to fully enjoy all the benefits freelancing can do for your life.

#3) - High Earning Potential

Freelancers earn more money

Contrary to what some may believe, as a freelancer, you have a higher earning potential than a traditional position. Your salary as a freelancer is not limited like it is in a corporate job. When you are a freelancer, you are working for yourself and you are in control of how much you want to earn. Being in control of your earnings and working for yourself makes freelancing an overall more stable and secure career path as opposed to a typical corporate position.

People no longer have to settle for a set salary because they now can access abundance online, creating multiple flows of income from clients. Once you become a freelancer, you can get paid for the work that you put in. It is a secure position to be in knowing that all the hard work that you do is paid off when you are a freelancer.

There are no more limits to being tied to a set paycheck because you create your earnings, on your own time. Once you build multiple flows of online income, the more freedom and security you will be able to create in your life. Many people who are unhappy with their 9-to-5 jobs are beginning to flock to making money online by providing freelance services.

According to a 2017 study from Bankrate.com, more than 44 million Americans have a side hustle, which can range from working on freelance projects after hours to driving for ride-sharing companies on the weekends. Of the 86 percent of side hustlers who earn extra money from a side job every month, 36 percent make more than $500, the study found. Making ends meet was the main motivation for the majority of side hustlers and may be one of the key reasons you need a side hustle, too.”

Employers are also seeing beneficial profit from companies hiring more freelancers because it allows the hiring company to avoid paying benefits to temporary workers.

These cost savings are often passed along, resulting in higher pay for freelancers. Alongside that are one-time jobs and remote work are also beneficial for those who want to stay at home and be a caregiver or a stay-at-home mom. Not only does freelancing for parent’s have more earning potential, but they also save in overall daycare costs, and other savings such as cost to commuting to work, eating out for lunch, etc.

Mom's also reap the benefits in freelancing by being able to stay home and make their own set of hours and earning. In fact, mom's can make more profit than they did at a 9-5 that had a low salary and high life expenses.

Moms can earn more freelancing gif

For example, a stay-at-home-mom can earn more than $100 an hour using their skills in positions they can find through freelancing sites such as Upwork. If you are interested in seeing what the top 10 side hustles are that you can earn up to $100 a day with, you can read our blog on that topic here.

Freelancing also provides a high earning potential because there's a lot of different ways you can fill your pipeline and generate additional income. First, you can start by going on freelancing websites like Upwork and Fiverr. These platforms are where you can get qualified clients who are posting thousands of jobs a day and are looking for freelancers like you to help them. Take advantage of these free freelance platforms because it is a sure way to get more clients into your pipeline and ultimately turn them into monthly recurring revenue.

The gig economy is providing amazing opportunities that range from every skill level and schedule type; and work has never been more accessible as long as you have an internet connection and a laptop. Take advantage of the higher income opportunities that freelancing can provide for you no matter what type of lifestyle or position you want. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket with one traditional job. By being a freelancer and having multiple streams of income, you put yourself in the best position possible for success. Focus on trading your
value to business owners and helping solve their problems rather than trading your time for money. This will help you expand your earning potential to the moon.

In Conclusion:

work from home as a profitable freelancer

In conclusion, whether you are someone who wants more freedom, more income, more flexibility, or all 3, I highly suggest taking action towards becoming a profitable freelancer as soon as possible.

Aside from all the benefits that freelancing can bring to your life, it is also the way of the future and by getting ahead of the curve you can secure your success and financial security that you deserve.
